Most people want to be slim and trim, especially during the summer months. If you’re on a quest to get an awesome beach body, you may have decided to go on a diet. However, dieting is not always the answer. While not all of them are bad for you, depending on your current health status, certain ones could make things worse. Here are some reasons why you may not want to embark on a diet.
1. You don’t have medical clearance
It’s not a smart idea to just start any type of diet on a whim. Your best bet is to consult your doctor before trying an eating plan, especially if you have a chronic illness. Certain diets, like the grapefruit diet, could have a negative impact on your health. WebMD says grapefruit can have an interaction with some prescription drugs, such as ones used to treat high cholesterol and high blood pressure. So if you have any serious long-term illnesses, you’ll want to check with your doctor first.
In addition to a medical consultation, you may also want to meet with a nutritionist. He or she can help you figure out how many calories you should be eating each day as well as what foods are best for your needs. A nutritionist can also tell you how much you should weigh based on your age, height, and body type.
